Teal and Red Highbacked corset by Cuddlyparrot Teal and Red Highbacked corset by Cuddlyparrot
The musculature of a aerialist presents an interesting challenge to the corsetiere. In this piece we decided to accentuate rather than diminish her powerful shoulders by encasing them in a high, strapped back. This underbust corset is fit perfectly under her bustline While the overall panel shaping is Edwardian-inspired, with silk-satin piping meeting at a four-way intersection at the hip, the back is truly unique, accentuating a tiny waist and arcing gracefully up to the nape of the neck. The angled triangular shoulder straps provide nearly a halter-style shaping in the front. This corset can be worn with a blouse underneath, or with the matching pair of pasties. I suggested one red heart & one spade in teal as a set of pasties to wear with a black ruff with teal beading. My client plans on adding rhinestones to this piece for a burlesque act.

Hello, I'm knew to corset making (I made my first one last week!) although I've done several costumes already.
You work is just gorgeous! I am particularly found of this one. The shape and fabrics are just amazing.
I was wondering if there were any corset pattern that you would recommend.
Thanks. ^.^

Woah that IS stunning! Love the fabric, the pattern lines, everything!

I take it this was an in-person fitting?

Yes there were 2 in person fittings for this one. The blue with black piping in my gallery was the first trial version done up in fashion fabric to test sewing boning channels over piping. Minor modifications were done to the pattern and then the this one, the final version was completed.

The drafting consisted of starting from an antique Edwardian corset pattern, adjusting it to her size and drafting a high back onto that, making a mock-up to adjust fit, then I drew different style lines on it and adjusted the pattern accordingly. Does that make sense? Another mock-up of the new style lines was done to tweak the fit since changing style lines actually does change fit some since fabric cut on the bias reacts different under pressure, even with two layers of coutil! But a lot of work later I absolutely love how it turned out.

This is probably the most detailed reply I have ever received haha. Thank you! This does make sense the way you described it. It sounds like a good deal of work but it was probably more fun than 'work'. :) That is a rather fascinating and logical process you went through. I am extremely impressed with your results, and it always makes me happy that the artist (you) loves how it turned out as well! Thanks for sharing with us dear! :D
